We’re back for 2012, for Sunday September 9th!
Join in for a self-guided tour of backyard chicken coops and suburban gardens in the Pleasant Valley community in Novato, California. On Sunday September 9th, meet people who created varied habitats in their own backyards so they could reap the rewards of chicken ownership. Learn about how their coops were constructed, maintenance requirements, and what the chickens bring in the relationship (rich eggs, fabulous insect control, and most of all—happiness!).
Don’t miss your chance as well to enter the raffle for a locally hand crafted Hen House (as seen in the parade!)
Funds generated from the tour benefit Pleasant Valley Elementary School’s outdoor education program. Their outdoor education program includes student trips to Walker Creek, improvements to the PV Community Garden, and educating our children about the food they eat and its impact on the world around them. This year we hope to generate enough donations to insure that every child, regardless of financial ability, can attend Walker Creek. We also have the lofty goal of improving and expanding our existing garden to include 20 additional fruit trees and winter vegetables to supplement the nutritional needs of our children.
Don’t forget to chicken walk with us via facebook to stay tuned for updates.
